TORA CREATIVE
Hospitality website conceptConcept Project

Orlo

A website concept for a Carlton wine bar and dining room, built around the three things hospitality sites are actually opened for: the menu, a table and a function.

Concept Project

This website was designed and built by Tora Creative to demonstrate its approach for this industry. It was self-directed rather than commissioned, and no performance, ranking or enquiry results are claimed for it. The demonstration build is published at orlo.toracreative.com.au (opens in a new tab).

The Business Problem

Hospitality websites are opened with a specific question already in mind -- what's on, can I get a table, can you hold my birthday. Sites that bury the menu in a PDF and hide the booking behind a contact form send that visitor to a review aggregator instead, and the venue loses both the booking and the relationship.

Intended Audience

Locals and inner-Melbourne diners choosing somewhere for tonight or the weekend, plus function organisers comparing private rooms for a birthday, a work dinner or a launch.

Website Strategy

Answer the three questions immediately. Address, kitchen hours and the reservations number sit in the hero, and the menu is a real page with anchored sections rather than a download, so it can be read on a phone on the way there and updated the morning it changes. Functions get a full page with room capacities stated as numbers, because an organiser's first question is whether the room fits. Booking stays one tap away from every page.

Design Direction

Warm and editorial, built to carry food and room photography: a cream base, deep burgundy accent and an italic serif used for emphasis. Large image wells run full-bleed behind the headlines so the venue's atmosphere does the persuading, with the practical detail set quietly in a clean sans.

Page Structure

  1. 01Home -- atmosphere, hours, address and booking
  2. 02Menu -- nine sections from stuzzichini to wine
  3. 03About -- the room, the kitchen and the people
  4. 04Functions -- private rooms, capacities and how it works
  5. 05Reservations -- booking request and opening hours
  6. 06Contact -- location, hours and enquiries

Intended Conversion Path

  1. 01Arrives from a search, a map listing or a shared link
  2. 02Reads the menu to decide whether it suits the occasion
  3. 03Checks the kitchen hours against tonight
  4. 04Books a table, or opens Functions for a larger group
  5. 05Submits a reservation or function enquiry
